The School Counseling Department sponsors and organizes various activities throughout the year.
The counseling department helps in supporting Walk/Bike to School Day by having ambassadors create posters to promote the event. The day of the event, student ambassadors will also create inspirational messages/ pictures to help encourage students to walk as well as greet students and give high 5's.
RRW-Red Ribbon Week (October 21th-25th ) nationally recognizes the importance of living a drug, alcohol, and tobacco free life. Our school will celebrate during the Oct 19th-23rd with daily themes. Age and grade level appropriate guidance lessons will be conducted to reinforce the importance of choosing healthy lifestyles.
Career Day (3th-5th grade) and Career on Wheels (K-2nd grade) are presentations which involves parents and people within the community sharing interesting facts about their careers. They also emphasize how learning at school prepares them for a success in any career. Students understand that basic skills such as listening, following directions, and working together are essential skills that promote school & career success. These events will place in the spring of the year.
Kids Kan Week (DES Community Service) is designated as a time for students to give to help other students and families who face food insecurities in the Mid-South area. They are encouraged to give designated foods item each day. The importance of giving is reinforced and how it contributes to our theme "Choose To Be KIND." As a follow-up community service project, student ambassadors go to the Memphis Food Bank and volunteer time sorting donated food. They also learn first hand how the collected food goes out to help those in need.
Student Ambassadors-consist of 4th and 5th grade students who were selected the previous school year. These students will participate in activities that promote leadership and strengthen problem-solving skills. Overall, they represent the willingness to help and make a difference in their school and community.
